Gemini is the third astrological sign in the Zodiac, originating from the constellation of Gemini. In western astrology, this sign is no longer aligned with the constellation as a result of the precession of the equinoxes. In astrology, Gemini is considered a "masculine", positive (extrovert) sign. It is also considered an air sign, and is one of four mutable signs.[5] Gemini has been closely associated with the planet Mercury and is considered to be ruled by it.

Individuals born when the Sun was in this sign are considered Gemini individuals. Under the tropical zodiac, the Sun is in the sign of Gemini roughly from May 21 to June 21.[6] Under the sidereal zodiac, it is currently there roughly from June 15 to July 15.

[edit] Astrological qualities and associations

Being the third sign in the zodiac, Gemini is associated with the astrological 3rd house, which is associated with natural Gemini matters - communications, siblings, neighbors and neighborhood matters, local travel and transport, education, everyday matters, brothers.

Gemini is considered to be the domicile of the planet Mercury, and therefore is ruled by it. Mercury is also often associated with the aforementioned matters. Virgo is also a domicile of Mercury.

[edit] Mythology

Gemini is associated with the Greek myth of Castor (or Kastor) and Pollux[7][8][9] and with the Greco-Roman god Hermes/Mercury.[8][9] Gemini is sometimes associated with the norse gods Loki,[9][10] Freyr, and Freyja,[11][12] the Slavic deity Veles[citation needed], and Greek god Asklepios/Aesculapius[citation needed], the goddesses Eris/Discordia[citation needed], the goddess Hebe[citation needed], and goddess Ate[citation needed]. Being twins, Gemini can also be associated with the Greek twins Apollo and Artemis[citation needed].

The astrological symbol for Gemini is the Roman numeral for two, to represent the twins and duality.[citation needed]

[edit] Associated traits

Astrologers assign personality traits to the signs. The following are traits more widely associated with Gemini. Note that no scientific research thus far has been able to prove such correlation. Many astrologers consider planetary aspects to hold a key influence[13] which may override sign location and thus conceding many exceptions.

[edit] Physical traits

Many astrologers believe that each of the zodiac signs has identifiable physical traits, which may be a mix of the Sun sign and the sign of the ascendant. Many believe that physically, individuals born with an ascendant of Gemini tend to have a straight and narrow nose, long limbs, slim, petite, of average or below average height, a well-proportioned chin, high cheekbones, pointy features, a wide mouth, a roundish head and long fingers.[18]

[edit] Compatibilities

Gemini is widely thought to be compatible with same element signs, Aquarius,[19][20] Libra[19][20] and Gemini itself.[20]

There are many variables that determine compatibility in astrology, such as birth dates, birth months, birth years, position of a sign within the Sun, the Moon, Stars, etc. The signs listed as compatible with Gemini do not reflect an individual profile or individual reading as interpreted within astrology, but rather reflect a general guideline and reference to compatibility as dictated by variables such as Qualities and Elements within the Zodiac.[19]
