[edit] Rossdale mother's name?

Folks, this article and some other pages says Gavin's mother's name is Lucy, but at some other sites, even the articles in portuguese and espanish reffer to her as Barbara Stephan. Which is the correct name?

[edit] Bisexual or Ambiguous?

In "Take It Like a Man," Boy George states that Gavin Rossdale used to date his drag queen best friend Marilyn. This was written, I assume, before Bush got popular. Maybe it's another Gavin Rossdale, but do you know if it's him? Is he bisexual or was he experimenting? Do you think Gwen Stefani knows or cares about it? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Chumley41 (talkcontribs) 01:53, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

It's the same Gavin Rossdale, but I don't know if they were anything more than friends. Either way, he's never mentioned Marilyn.Sposato (talk) 04:06, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

In an interview for Rolling Stone, Steven Daly asked about Boy George's book describing Gavin as the boyfriend of Marilyn.[1] Gavin replied, "That's George's take - he doesn't know me.... There's a queue of people going to their lawyers about stuff in his book. I hope he manages to sell some books by putting my name in there." The answer sounds like a denial as to "boyfriend" at least, but is technically neither a denial nor a confirmation. It might be deliberately ambiguous in a David Bowie way, but is more likely a statement about taste: in the same interview he distanced himself pointedly from the fights over "ludicrous macho stuff" among some of his former teammates in semi-pro football/soccer, and he ridiculed stereotypical straight pseudo-machismo in the song "testosterone" on Sixteen Stone. In a radio interview, a male DJ gushed about envying how much fan mail Gavin must be receiving from smitten women, and Gavin made a point of replying that he received the same from men too; in the context of the time, he was publicly rejecting homophobia and assumptions of heterosexuality. Otherwise, I don't know anything other than that Gavin and Marilyn were part of the same London social scene in the 1980's including Leigh Bowery's club Taboo, which is described in the musical Taboo (musical). (I saw the musical but alas missed the club, which seems to have been the closest thing to what the glam scene had been in the 1970s.) My guess is that his friendship (or whatever) with Marilyn and Taboo reflected a shared cultural sensibility (creative, alternative, countercultural). Gwen was on tour with Gavin when the RS interview ran, and I think they were already dating, so she probably knows the whole story (whatever it is); as for whether she cares, they have since been married and had a child, another on the way...TVC 15 (talk) 06:29, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Rossdale/Cobain

"In particular, Rossdale's throaty singing voice and random, stream of consciousness-style lyrics were dismissed as a pale imitation of Nirvana's lead singer, Kurt Cobain."

Yeah, like Cobain invented it. Nirvana were a copycat band and Cobain was the biggest plagiarist of all (Pixies, Killing Joke, Neil Young etc etc). 86.17.210.229 11:41, 28 March 2006 (UTC)

To be fair, even though I think it's nonsense, I can't remember the last time Bush came up in a conversation and they weren't mentioned as being "Nirvana-lite." I'm personally more stuck on "Rossdale modelled briefly, producing some embarrassing fashion shots with good friend Marilyn." Why embarassing? Really needs a source to avoid coming off like veiled bigotry (Marilyn is a cross-dresser). 63.249.109.88 14:36, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Tidy Up

This article stank of Nirvana fan. I've attempted to remove the PoV, and tidy the article up, but it's still poor. 86.17.210.229 11:41, 28 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Year of birth

Why does that link to the Westminster study page say that Gavin's year of birth was 1965 when many sources said it was 1967? 64.53.209.169 20:36, 2 April 2006 (UTC)

I wondered about that too but Westminster, IMDB, and NNDB all say 1965. He attended Westminster, so the school probably has reliable records. IMDB and NNDB are usually reliable, too. So, I believe it's 1965.TVC 15 (talk) 07:31, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
