Talk:Gatun structure
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I have taken the liberty of editing this page to indicate that this is not a confirmed impact crater/structure, as the previous text implied. Also added links to the most recent abstracts. Note the authors are getting more cautious with time. The conclusions is the 2002 abstract (link) are most telling..........
Conclusions: While classical distinctive shock metamorphic evidence is limited, the field geometry of the site, and the petrography and field occurrences of various breccias and glasses associated with the structure all found only within a roughly 3 km radius, suggests an anomalous geologic event. Whether it is the result of a hypervelocity impact, an anomalous explosive volcanic event (e.g. phreatomagmatic), or another mode of origin, remains uncertain at this time.

- Thanks for fixing the article. Some of the earlier versions did have the word "probable", but somebody removed it. If only Wikipedia editors learn to be more skeptical...--JyriL talk 17:46, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

- I fully agree, more skepticism needed. Just edited the page for 'Kebira Crater' in the same manner. A few more to go. PeterWH 09:54, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
