Gaslight Village

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gaslight Village was a Vaudeville themed amusement park in Lake George, NY. It opened in 1959, designed by Arto Monaco and built by amusement park legend Charles Wood. The park was approximately 3-4 city blocks in size, and featured some standard amusement rides, (a ferris wheel, merry-go-round, bumper cars, etc) as well as some unusual rides.

  • Gas powered model T u-drive cars
  • A bicycle ride that went around like a merry-go-round. The bicycles were all connected together. Two people per bike, all pedaling at the same time, pushed the ride around.
  • Parked vehicles: The streets also contained old stationary 1920's vehicles visitors could enter and pretend to drive.
  • Vaudevillian play house: It also featured an adult-themed Vaudevillian play house with period can-can shows and acts.
  • Car collection: It eventually added a car collection which included one of the flying cars from the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang movie.
  • Flight to Mars dark ride.

The park was closed in 1989. Its site later became the now defunct Lake George Action Park.
