Garner Andrews is a popular morning radio personality in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. He was voted "#1 radio personality in Edmonton" for 2006 and 2007. Among doing voice talents for other broadcasters such as Zed 99 FM - Red Deer (radio) and DejaVU (cable TV), he can best be found weekday mornings from 6:00 am until 10:00 am hosting the Garner Andrews Show on Sonic 102.9FM. He has been known to refer to himself as "The white, chubby, balding, male Oprah".
Garner has quickly become known for his unique style of radio humor, which includes rants and discussions on various day-to-day topics of modern culture and public etiquette. He is known to assertively push for changes in the Edmonton community through multiple projects, such as discouraging the use of debit at the Tim Hortons drive-thru, to petitioning for the renaming of a street after himself. He often brings up the topic of running for and becoming the first "President of Alberta", although his sincerity on the subject is uncertain.
His morning radio show can characteristically be identified by his "Napoleon Dynamite"-esque choices of background music, frequent lashings at a fictitious assistant named Amber, and of course, intro segments from the high-pitched studio usher character, Teddy Peterson.
Some Garner Andrews ideas that have festered into large scale operations are:
- Tradeo (Bringing small town radio to the big city)
- Mini Fridays (a.k.a "Thursdays")
- The "Bring Back Pie" Movement
- Man Land
- Trophy Wife (t-shirts)
- Salute to substandard service
- Daily Nap Index
Despite Garner's social efforts, The Garner Andrews show's most popular component could possibly be the Sonic Modern Rock Door. Played weekday mornings at 8:20am, listeners can call in to guess the song and artist of a brief snippet of audio for a daily incremented cash prize. This contest is notoriously difficult. (additional minor contests: Song Bot, Make it Stop)
[edit] Wives
Garner's ex-wife is Christine Magee, founder of Sleep Country Canada, a specialty mattress retailer in Canada.[citation needed]
Garner's current wife, affectionately referred to as "Trophy Wife" may be seen on Sonic's advertising billboards around Edmonton. She is the woman shown smiling in a contorted position, captioned "Try something different here."[citation needed]
