Garhshanker is a city and a municipal council in Hoshiarpur district in the state of Punjab, India.

The town was founded by Doad king Shankar Sahai Doad. Hence the name: Garh (Home of) Shankar (Founders' name).Garhshankar was founded in 1000.AD by Shankar Sahai Doad.That time king.Garhshankar was converted as a Tehsil in the year of 1844 by Brithish Govt.Doad is the surname belongs to Rajput Caste.Majority of them is living at Block number 22 in Garhshankar especially in the upper villages of Garhshankar popularly known as area BEET.In old time this area was under one king ( Rana Tikka ..Elder son of the King is called Sh.Tikka) who controlled all villages from Garhi Mansowal.Still old palace can be seen in this Village.
