[edit] Childhood
Gangadhar was born in Hanehalli. He completed early education in his hometown Hanehalli and then went to Kumta to study at Gibbs High School. He graduated from high school in 1940. Chittal ranked first among thousands and thousand students who appeared for high school diploma in the presidency of Bombay (which included current states of Maharashtra, Gujarat, part of Karnataka and part of Madhya Pradesh.)

Chittal was honored at Karnataka College Dharwar and continued his initial studies in Dharwar and then went to Willingdon College at Sangli. He was a student of English and Kannada languages. There Subbanna Ekkundi was Chittal's classmate. Also at Willington Collage, Professor V. K. Gokak was Chittal's teacher. After graduation from Mumbai University Gangadhar joined in 1948 , The Indian Audit and Account Service. Initially he worked as Assistant Accountant General in Bombay and then moved to Washington D.C. as Deputy Director of Audit. After completion of his stint in Washington D. C., he was transferred to New Delhi as Deputy Secretary in Irrigation and Power Ministry and then as Comptroller and Auditor General in New Delhi. Subsequently he moved to London as Director of Audits until his retirement he was Director of Audits, at Western Railways, in Bombay. He moved all over the world during his posting in Washington D.C. & London, auditing several Indian Embassies and Consulates.
He was married to Meera Krishna Gaitonde of Karwar. Gangadhar was an older brother of Yashwant Chittal.

He is the author of four Kannada Books (Collection of Poems).

2.Manu Kulad Haadu,
3.Hariva Neeridu and
4.Samparka.
In 1983 he was honored by Karnataka Sahitya Academy (Karnatak State Literary Society) for contribution to Kannada Literature.
