Gamma Gruis (γ Gru / γ Gruis) is a star in the constellation Grus. It also has the traditional name Aldhanab (Arabic الذنب al-Dhanab for "the tail" of Al-Hut the Southern Whale). Another traditional name is Ras Alkurki (Arabic رأس الكركي ra's al-kurki) for "Head of the Crane".
Gamma Gruis has apparent magnitude +3.01 (third-magnitude) and is a blue giant belonging to spectral class B8III. The luminosity of Gamma Gruis is neary 210 times that of the Sun. It is approximately 203 light years from Earth.
