Gaddi (Bible)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gaddi (Hebrew: גַּדִּי) is mentioned in the Bible in Numbers 13:11 as the son of Susi. He was a leader from the Tribe of Joseph at the time of Moses and served as the representative of his tribe on a mission to explore the land of Canaan. He is often referred to as one of the "spies" of Israel. Along with representatives of the other eleven tribes, he scouted Canaan to evaluate the fortification of its cities and the agricultural potential of the land. After 40 days, they brought back grapes, pomegranates and figs, three of the seven kinds of sacred foods in Judaism. In their report to Moses, they confirmed that the land was "flowing with milk and honey." They also reported on the cities and their inhabitants.
