Gururaja Shyamacharya Amur (Kannada: ಜಿ. ಎಸ್. ಆಮೂರ; born May 8, 1925), is a leading contemporary writer and critic in Kannada and English. He is married to Smt. Shanta Amur and currently resides in Dharwad, Karnataka.

Amur was born in Bommanahalli in the Dharwad district of Karnataka in southern India. He obtained his Master of Arts degree in English from Bombay University and his PhD from Karnatak University. His thesis was titled The Concept of Comedy.

After his M.A., Amur worked as a Professor of English at Karnatak University in Dharwad and Marathwada University in Aurangabad before he visited the University of California at Santa Barbara and Yale University as a Senior Fulbright scholar in 1972-73.
