The Fuwa clan (不破氏?) is a family of conjective descendence from the ruling clan of Fujiwara--a supreme power up until the latter Heian Period--rising to notability by the Sengoku period of Feudal Japan. Serving as head vassals under the Toki and its ruling authority over Mino Province, throughout the century's beginning, they ascended to a level of reputation as they supported the succession of 'Serpent Daimyo' Saitō Dōsan and his ultimate control over their respective province. As Dōsan was unfortunately destroyed by the hands of his son, Saitō Yoshitatsu by the year 1554, Tatsuoki succeeded, forcing the Fuwa and other head retainer families under the Saitō to defect to the powerful Oda Nobunaga, who would later tear apart what remained of Tatsuouki and his clan after ensuring the mutual support of their disgusted retainers. As a resulution to the Fuwa's defection, Nobunaga granted them a domain within Echizen Province at which they would then follow with many supportive assistance under the Oda clan's right arm. Up until Nobunaga's death in the year 1582, the Fuwa became retainer under the command of Maeda Toshiie, one of the former's head generals, and remained in such a state throughout the Sengoku period's end. Their fate following this period in time is generally not known, but it is highly suggestive that they managed to live within the Edo period by means of their assistance to one of Tokugawa Ieyasu's prime comrades–Nobunaga.
