A functional map outlines the functions that an area performs and the sub components that make up that function.
Two common ways to show this is in table form or graphical form.
The level of detail shown in a functional map can vary.
The top level is a high level description of what the function is. Example: Provide Email Services to Staff
The next level breaks this down Example: Provide Staff with an email client on their desktop Provide a mail server to store mail Provide staff with email addresses
This can continue to as many levels as you want but 3-4 would be recommended
