Fukubara Hirotoshi
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Fukubara Hirotoshi (福原広俊? 1512?-1593) was a retainer under the Mōri clan throughout the late Sengoku period of Feudal Japan. Serving both Mōri Motonari and Terumoto, Hirotoshi served during the Siege of Koriyama in 1540 where he valiantly resisted the Amago clan, making for himself a reputation with his fellow retainer comrades. Additionally supporting Motonari's attempt to resist Sue Harukata at the Battle of Miyajima in 1555--in which the Mōri were initially outnumbered by half--Hirotoshi continued his mutual support, making a name for himself in 1557 the runaway Ouchi Yoshinaga within Noto Province's Chofu Castle, forcing the former to commit ritual suicide before his very feet. Receiving great praise for this feat, Hirotoshi aspired to ensure that his clan would survive by all means, and that he will be honored as the years pass on. In effect, Hirotoshi offered two of his daughters in marriage to both Katsura Motozumi and Kuchibi Miyoshi, who consequently accepted such a proposal and ensured that the Fukubara would succeed his stead as retainers under the Mōri. Hirotoshi thus died by the year of 1593, most probable by means of old age, considering that if his time of birth is accurate, he was one of very few to have lived as long as he had.
