FUCK YOU HEROES is an anthology of photos taken by Glen E. Friedman, one of the few photojournalists to document the American underground music scene during the days when punk rock was just beginning to galvanize itself into a social movement. Although mostly based in southern California, Friedman's work also includes photos shot in Washington D.C., San Francisco, Boston, and New York. Featured are photos of punk rock icons such as Black Flag, Dead Kennedys, Minor Threat, The Misfits, Bad Brains and Fugazi, and hip hop innovators including Public Enemy, Ice-T, Beastie Boys and Run-D.M.C.. The book also documents the revolutionary skateboarding scene of the mid to late 1970s, lead by Dogtown pioneers such as Tony Alva, Jay Adams and Stacy Peralta.
The title is a reference to the book's many famous subjects, who are heroes in the eyes of many for saying "Fuck You" to authority figures, governments and corporations trying to limit others.
