[edit] Template:Convert

This template's functionality can be meet by the more general conversion template Template:Convert, I propose that this template be deprecated in favor of Template:Convert. VerruckteDan 00:05, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

Sorry I don't agree with deprecating it. I find this template actually easier/quicker to use than Template:Convert. Convert, which I think is a good template, tends to take many more keystrokes to acomplish the same thing as this template: Example: {{ft to m|100}}--> 100 feet (30 m) where the same thing in convert would be:{{convert|100|ft|m|1}}--> 100 feet (30.5 m). The extra pipes that are needed in convert tend to slow one down. —MJCdetroit 00:49, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
It's all a matter of taste and preferences in the end. There is no harm in having both {{Convert}} and the set of single-purpose templates; this way people may choose the one they like most.—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 17:01, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
My vote would be to keep both (at least for now): {{convert}} doesn't deal with ranges or two- or three-dimensions. Jɪmp 03:27, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] foot vs feet

At Tiger Woods I am using the template. I want it to say 30 foot (9.1 m). It defaults to feet instead of foot. Using the abbreviation parameter I can get it to say ft instead of feet. Is there a way to get it to read foot? Please inform me on my talk page of your response. --TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 21:43, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

Unfortunately, no, the template is not intended for this kind of use. Of course, I can modify it again by adding yet another parameter (something like forcesingular=[yes/no]), but that'll blow this already overblown template up quite a bit, and I am actually trying to cut its size (without much success). If having this feature is not absolutely crucial, I'd suggest to either rephrase the sentence or use the abbreviated form as you did. If you have better suggestions, I'll be happy to hear them out, of course.—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 22:39, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
The new version of convert (currently at {{convert/sandbox}}) will be able to do this. Just enter {{convert|30|foot}} (currently {{convert/sandbox|30|foot}}) to get 30 foot (9.1 m). Jɪmp 00:03, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Rewrite

Having rewritten this template it's time to delete {{Ft to m 2D}}, {{Ft to m 3D}} and {{Ft to m 2D}}; which are no longer used by the new version. The new version has its subroutines as subpages. Don't worry about the page histories—I moved these to their respective equivalent(ish) new subpages. Jɪmp 00:13, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

Done. Thanks for the great re-write! I owe you one.—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 13:06, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] bug when num=0

Hi, could someone fix the behavior for {{ft to m|0}}, currently rendering as 0 feet (Expression error: Unexpected < operator m)? I don't have time to take care of it right now. -- Lea (talk) 03:35, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

Done. But you know, you could've just done it yourself :) Cheers,—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 14:27, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
