[edit] Kristoffer From

[edit] Who am I

I am a student of computer science from Sweden who sometimes drop by here, occasionally to contribute, but mostly just to browse.

[edit] Why am I here

I have a wide range of interests, including, but not limited to, history, natural sciences and psychology as well as popular culture. Wikipedia is, as far as I am concerned, an excellent gathering of information regarding these areas and others.

[edit] Questions and Answers

Please note - this Q&A session is attempted humour, not ridicule. Take offense if you must, but not before admitting your lips twisted at least a little while reading.

Is 'From' really your last name?

Yes, it means 'pious' in Swedish. It's an old soldier's name.

What's your first name?

It's Bo.

Aah!

I'm not trying to scare you.

Bo is your first name? Really?

Really. It means 'home/nest' in Swedish.

Well, at least Kristoffer's a regular name

Sort of. 'Krist' is of course a short form of 'Kristus', Swedish for Christ. Unlike in English, in Swedish the second part also has a meaning - 'offer' is swedish for 'victim/sacrifice'. So its literal meaning is 'sacrifice to Christ'.

So you're the home for pious sacrifices to Christ

If you're being literal, yes. If you insist, one of us will bleed.

Then you must be a devoted Christian - or at least your parents must be

No, I mustn't. My mom occasionally visits the church, true, but my father is hard to get in there even for weddings and funerals.

But someone said you'd read the bible

Yes, several times, from age five when I received my first copy from my parish, until most recently an online, annotated version.

And you attended sunday school

Or something similar. It functioned as a place for supervised play with other children and was an outlet for my creative impulses. I remember when we were asked to make dolls for poor children in Soviet, and I painted mine to the likness of Gorbachev. No, the supervisors didn't approve.

And I heard you were confirmed

Yes, I was confirmed in junior high, thus securing multiple offerings from older relatives for myself.

Then you're a devout Christian

'Know thine enemy.'

You can't have been that cynical when you were five years old

No, not until I started school when I was seven. Before then, I mostly found it funny that some people believed in those stories but not, for instance, 'Arabian Nights', in spite of what I felt to be similar levels of credibility.

You're one of those atheists

How very astute. Yes.

That means you hate God

No, I don't. Not any more than I hate Santa, the Easter Bunny or the Tooth Fairy, all similar constructs of human imagination.

Stop mocking Christianity

I consider organised religion an affront to humanity. Why shouldn't I mock one of the more detestable cults?

Because Christians believe in it

I'm sorry; I consider all who have feel a need to believe in an omnipotent, quasi-benevolent higher being to have psychological issues that should be addressed in a more healthy manner.

Stop making fun of Christans

Really, I'm not singling you out. If you belong to an organised religion, I will mock you and your beliefs. If your religion isn't organised, I still may. If you adhere to a philosophical conviction of how to interact with others and find your place in the world, I probably won't.

Meany

Yes.

What are your views on other topics?

They're just as controversial, please don't ask - especially if you were offended by the above. Let's just mention that on the abortion issue, I take the pro-choice stance at least a step further than 'normal' pro-choice people do. If the woman can choose to have the baby aborted, why shouldn't the man be able to make the same choice? Flipside of the coin, if the woman can keep the baby even if the man wants to abort, shouldn't the man be able to choose to keep the baby even if the woman wants to abort?

You're just evil, I hope you die horribly

Chances are, unfortunately, I won't, since apparently longevity is inherited from the father. My paternal grandfather died at the ripe old age of 97 after a life of booze, fighting and hard work, my father is still going strong and I'm only in my mid-twenties.

On the other hand, he was the only one of my grandparents (paternal and maternal) who didn't develop cancer, so you can always hope that's what gets me.
