Fringe dwellers
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Fringe Dwellers" is often the name given to groups of Aboriginal Australians who camp on the outskirts of Australian towns and cities, that through law or land alienation they have become excluded from. Originally a term of aprobation, many more radical groups now use it as a term of pride.
"The Fringe Dwellers" is the title of a 1986 Australian film about this group of people, directed by Bruce Beresford & based on the novel of the same title by Nene Gare. Indigenous activist, poet & educator Oodgeroo Noonuccal (previously known as Kath Walker) was an actor in & script adviser for this film.
