Fringe Toast

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

FRINGE TOAST [1]is the name of a weekly Wednesday night (8-10pm Central Time) radio program on KRUU-FM 100.1 in Fairfield, Iowa, USA. Andrew Bargerstock is the host of this popular program featuring seldom heard music across a variety of genres (blues, electronica, downtempo, trip-hop, international singer-songwriters, chill-out, and forgotten classics from the 1970s). For many, Fringe Toast is a valuable experience for discovering unique music to build an intriguing library. Bargerstock indicates that most Fringe Toast programs present 80-90% new music each week, i.e., pieces never played on earlier programs. Playlists are posted weekly on the radio station website.

DJ Andy Bargerstock explains that the show is called "Fringe" because it isn't mainstream, and "Toast" because by the end of the show he hopes that "toast" will be the condition of the audience's mind.

Bargerstock began his DJ career at college radio stations in Pennsylvania during 1973-76 where he was known as "The Underground Man" because even then he had a penchant for obscure music such as performers Joe Byrd and the Field Hippies, Tonto's Expanding Head Band, The Third Ear Band, Lothar and the Hand People. In addition, he collects rare tracks of well-known bands such as, "The Shield" by Deep Purple.
