Fred Hemmings is a Republican member of the Hawaii Senate, representing the 25th District since 2000. Previously he was a member of the Hawaii House of Representatives from 1984 through 1990.
He is also a surfer, and author. He is a 1965 graduate of Punahou School.[1] As 1968 world surfing champion, Hemmings is considered one of the most successful surfers of all time. After a career of professional surfing in the 1960s and 1970s, Hemmings entered politics. In 1991, Hemmings was inducted into the International Surfing Hall of Fame, and in 1998 the Hawaii State Sports Hall of Fame.[citation needed]
