[edit] The logic of the name of this category

The name French Quebecer doesn't seem to be the proper name for this category. Quebecers are assumed to be french. It would make sense if there was an Irish Quebecer category for the Irish Quebecers. But Quebecers are mainly french anyways and the category should be changed to Quebecers. Kingjeff 13:49, 31 March 2006 (UTC)

Because people of French origin are a majority in Quebec, what you say makes sense. There are no "English Canadians" or "British Canadians" category (there is an "English Americans" one, though, but Americans have generally more varied origins). See my entry on Category:French Canadians for my question there, and a most certainly related topic. Arasaka 17:23, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

I disagree with the above two comments. Who assumes Quebecers are French?? The majority of Quebecers are French-speaking (or "francophone"), but they are certainly not the whole population. To learn more, why not visit the Wikipedia page called "English-speaking Quebecer." In it, you will find an impressive list of "Famous Quebec anglophones." Que-Can

My goal was not to deny the presence and influence of anglophones or allophones in Quebec. There is a number of non-French speakers in France, yet no "French French" category. The point is simply that the French are a majority in Quebec and anyone with a French name is considered to be, de facto, French. No matter the status (nation, distinct society, whatever), Quebec has an important French influence, being an old French colony, which is found in the modern culture, people, and institutions, as well as history.
