[edit] Rhine move

Hi, and welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that you moved a page recently, and I'm wondering if you discussed this action with anyone else before doing so. Generally speaking, it's a good idea to discuss all such major actions on an article's talk page and try to get a consensus before carrying them out. As well-intentioned as your move may have been, I believe it was very inappropriate, as the Rhine river is MUCH more notable than this Joseph Banks Rhine. Perhaps there are some who would disagree with this, but it is important to remember that at Wikipedia, we try to reflect a neutral point of view and a global perspective. For the sake of argument, let's say 95% of people searching for "Rhine" are looking up the river, and 5% are looking for the parapsychologist. Rather than forcing the vast majority to click through a disambiguation page (or wind up there after clicking on any one of about 2000 links from other Wikipedia articles), it would be more appropriate to have an "other uses" statement. For an example, look at Java, which could refer to a kind of coffee or a computer language (and this has been the subject of past discussions), but is not a disambig page because the name of an island with 100 million inhabitants is immensely more notable than any other usage. Instead of it being a disambig page, then, there is an "other uses" line at the top to refer anyone looking for another type of "java" to Java (programming language) or Java (disambiguation).

When you have a chance, please take a look at the 5 pillars of Wikipedia if you have not done so already, and feel free to make suggestions or ask questions on articles' talk pages before making major changes. Thanks. Feeeshboy 02:42, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
