I am sick and tired of correcting articles that confuse English with British. After the Act of Union (1707) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acts_of_Union_1707) the whole of the island of Great Britain became a single political entity. Thus did the American colonists make war against the BRITISH army, NOT an English army.
