[edit] Deletion discussion
I appreciate the fact that many people are conserned about the quality of wikipedia, and I hold in high regard the effort they put in ridding it from extraneous content. I would like here to sign my disagreement to the deletion request. The problem with articles related to non-western countries, especially form the third world, is that notability is not quite transperant to the western editor and reader. Plus, If we allow that we require the same measures of notability as those applied on articles on extensively-documented cultures we will end up with a wikipedia that covers only the developed world for the simple fact that documentation in less developed countries is usually meager. So I request that admins be more considerate when dealing with articles about cultures remote from the western, especially when these articles come from least documented nations. For example this article is about a game very popular in Libya that it surely constitute a notable subject and I, as the author of the article, admit that my only reference to establish notability is first-hand knowledge. I do agree however that this opens the door for many to write aritcles with low quality and skewed perspective, for this, plenty of template messages exist and can be used to point out that they are in need of improvement ...etc. I would like you also to bear in mind that only a handful of people are striving to cover the specifics of countries like Libya, a heavy-handed treatment of their contribution can be detrimental to the effort they are making. [edit] Merge
Applying the notability criteria, this means that this article doesn't demonstrate notability. Unfortunately, individual first-hand experience doesn't serve to satify the notability requirements. I'm suggesting a merge to Morra (game) where some mention of the Libyan name of the game can be made there. (Admittedly, that article too needs work, but combining them into one article is better than having two separate ones I think.) --Craw-daddy | T | 17:00, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
- Merge is OK. I didn't know about Morra (it's good to know ;-). I agree with you that 1st-hand experience is not a basis for notability. But I think there are good reasons to relax this rule sometimes. I will do the merge merge myself. You can chack it later in Morra and tell me your opinion.
