Frankfurt (Main) Flughafen Regionalbahnhof

Frankfurt (Main) Flughafen Regionalbahnhof (translates from German as Frankfurt Airport regional railway station) is an underground railway station in Frankfurt, Germany that connects Frankfurt Airport to local S-Bahn and RegionalBahn services. It opened on 14 March 1972 as part of the new terminal opened at the airport. It was the first airport station in the area of the former Federal Republic of Germany.

The regional station has three platforms, 1-3. Until the opening of the of the long distance station, the regional station (up to then simply called "Frankfurt (Main) Flughafen") provided the only connection point to rail transport. Both suburban traffic and long-distance trains ran from the regional station, which led to congestion from time to time. Diesel-powered trains could only use the station if they produced low levels of exhaust gas.
