The mission of the Foundation For the Future is to increase and diffuse knowledge concerning the long-term future of humanity. It conducts a broad range of programs and activities to promote an understanding of the factors that may have an impact on human life in the long term.[1]

The Foundation presents a number of awards to further the goals of its mission. The awards include the Kistler Prize and the Walter P. Kistler Book Award.[2]

This annual award recognizes original contributions to the understanding of the connection between the human genome and human society, especially those contributions stemming from research conducted with courage and conviction despite opposition from peers or the public.[3]
