[edit] Why my name is what it is, and why I can now edit with it:
Few things to consider:
- Usernames that contain or resemble an IP addresses are generally discouraged for two reasons:
- Usernames are supposed the privacy of editors and hide the IPs they're using for editing
- Many vandals create usernames that expose other editors' IPs in an ofensive way (again, to violate their privacy)
Hence, such usernames get routinely blocked by administrators. Please accept my apologies and don't get discouraged.
Regarding username changing:
- Should you wish to decide on changing your username (I suggest picking something that you'd identify with more personally, that is a nickname of some sort), you can either:
- just create a new username (simple): http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Userlogin&type=signup
- request a username change (unlikely to be granted for usernames with 0 edits): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Changing_username
- In any case however, I don't believe it is technically possible to transfer edit attribution from an IP to a registered username. You may however link these two by putting appropriate notices on both userpages.

I'm "Formerly the IP-Address 24.22.227.53". I've been using this nom de guerre for about a year or so (as an unofficial username) on wikipedia talk pages (please search for it - the most recent usage is on the talk page of "Plated mail"). I wanted to make it official (to make a #REDIRECT from valence bond to Valence Bond) and have now had my IP-Address banned such that I can't even request a logged-in user to make the redirect. As you can imagine, this is aggravating (the only reason I had even created a login ID was to make this redirect).
At any rate, I'd be grateful if you'd unblock my username, and possibly even merge the talkpage/history from User:24.22.227.53.
Thank you in advance. If you decide to not unblock my username, then I request that you unblock my IP-Address, delete the username "Formerly the IP-Address 24.22.227.53" and create the redirect.
