[edit] Proposal

For drivers' name, shouldn't we use the three-letter form (e.g.: Michael Schumacher is MSC, Fernando Alonso is ALO) as used in Formula One TV? That would be good to reduce the width of template. Mxcatania 14:44, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

I don't like the idea to be honest. If someone is looking for a driver whose name they are not exactly sure of, seeing a group of three-letter abbreviations is hardly going to help them, and they would probably have to click to all of the links in order to find it. "MSC" means something to F1 fans, but as far as someone who's never seen them before knows, it is just a random grouping of letters. – AlbinoMonkey (Talk) 21:47, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
I agree with AlbinoMonkey. Also, I think the flags are too big (and maybe even irrelevant) for this template. --Fred Bradstadt 06:53, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

I agree. Also, the use of flags is really overused on F1 pages, especially on the template. I'll revert the template now. Manipe 16:43, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Proposal for changed layout

Being so completely new to editing on Wikipedia I just went ahead with this before looking at this page. However, I basically wanted to keep an updated bank of drivers that are most likely to be in next year's season but don't yet have a drive confirmed. These are the people will mostly fill the TBA's in the existing table. Since I was unable to format it in to the one on the 2008 drivers I made a separate one

Some feedback would be good, I basically got sick of looking up and playing spot the difference with the 2007 table when my memory started to fail etc. Feel free to add drivers if you think they stand a good chance of a drive but not necessarily remove drivers since I think it's a solid list at the moment. That's if it stays at all. Also, I welcome formatting suggestions. --Tombag 00:28, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

Template:2008 Formula One teams → Template:Formula One teams — It is a very useless and nonsense move. No template about 2007 is kept. So I don't think 2008 version should be specially placed. —Raymond Giggs 10:05, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

Since polling is not a substitute for discussion, please explain your reasons, taking into account Wikipedia's naming conventions.
  • Support. I was never in favour of the original move (i.e. {{Formula One teams}} --> {{2008 Formula One teams}} in the first place. As has been mentioned above, we don't maintain a template for the teams and drivers competing in each individual season (and as far as I'm aware, there are no plans to do so), so I don't see any reason why this template shouldn't just be called {{Formula One teams}}. Two other points to note: (1) I'm not sure this needs to be done via the "Requested Move" mechanism; if there's consensus to change the name (back) to {{Formula One teams}}, I think one of us could do it by just moving the template back over the existing redirect (2) Most (all?) of the linked articles actually transclude {{Formula One teams}} rather than {{2008 Formula One teams}} anyway, so if the name change does go ahead, there won't be many (any?) other articles that need to be updated.
