[edit] Clarification required

I have done a cleanup of the lead para, keeping all existing info, but this has brought into sharp focus an apparent inconsistency - the fort was required "urgently" at the time of the Crimean War (1853-56), yet the fort was built 1882-85: hardly "urgent"! Can someone with local knowledge please clarify? Ian Page 12:24, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

My understanding form the resource material is that the need was considered urgent, but the activity came much later. During 1853-56 naval artillery was placed on the bluff, but the actual walls developed much later. Im attempting a short draft to feature this , but as yet its not satisfactory to me.
