Talk:Foreign relations of Finland

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The list of international organisations does not appear to be accurate. In particular, it listed Finland as being a member of the G6 (now known as G8) and the G10, neither of which it is part of. There are probably other errors as well, but I don't know enough about this topic to be sure.

Also deleted:

NAM (the Non Aligned Movement, of which Finland is not a member)

Inmarsat (a company providing satellite communications - national telecoms companies are shareholders, but it's hardly an international organisation)

[edit] Re-section

I'm going to add a "History" section, and the contents will come from the relations with the Soviet Union. --Vuo 21:25, 19 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Disputes - international?

It says "none" but CIA World Factbook now includes the following: "various groups in Finland advocate restoration of Karelia and other areas ceded to the Soviet Union, but the Finnish Government asserts no territorial demands". Should this be added? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 80.222.50.237 (talk) 11:55, 17 March 2007 (UTC).

There are always marginal groups that have unpopular ideas. Opinion polls show that the majority of Finns don't support the annexation of Karelia. The economic strain and resulting the large Russian minority in Finland would be too much. No serious political party (with seats in the parliament) supports or advocates the idea. --Vuo 23:07, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
