Something should be said about the political use of foreign aid (ie. getting receiving countries to do what donating country wants via offering foreign aid). Plus a exploration of USAID stated/unstated lending policies.

Yeah I agree. This is big topic, theres much, much more to cover. This article really needs some attention --Clngre 21:15, 16 Dec 2004 (UTC)

yeah i agree. ther are many other issues that cover this topic. this does need more attention!! --- nisha----(it's all fake!!)

Foreign aid is a confusing term and not used much by people involved in this area. Development assistance or overseas aid is a better general title.

  • The trouble is that development assitance doesn't cover humanitarian aid or military aid.--Catquas 03:47, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

foriegn aid should be merged with aid, with the 3 types of foriegn aid coming under that. andy2808

I also think the subject of diplomatic aid should be mentioned as the fourth main type of aid.

Some numbers and comparisons would be nice.

[edit] Merge with Aid?

Re merge tag:

It has been suggested that this article or section be merged with Aid.

Support. Foreign aid is covered by Aid, as far as I can tell. --Singkong2005 00:22, 3 April 2006 (UTC)

Support. "Development aid" is a specific kind of aid, and as this article explains, is aimed at poverty reduction and economic growth. "Humanitarian aid" is not usually considered a branch of development assistance, and there is no way in which military aid has a development purpose. Also aid given as a bribe has no development purpose (for example, US aid to Egypt). "Foreign aid" is sometimes used to refer to aid in general and sometimes to development aid, and therefore I think it should be merged with "Aid" because this is both general and also encompasses development aid.--Catquas 03:41, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

don't do it

SupportAid, Foreign aid and Development aid are all generic terms with roughly the same meaning. Of these Aid is most general, and would allow for subtopics, each with their own articleJQ 10:15, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

Support All three terms have roughly the same meaning. The general academic term would be "Developmental assistance" (ODA) stressing the need that the goal of the program is economic development. Sometimes this comes in the form of military and humanitarian aid, however it is a branch of developemntal assistance.
