[edit] Change Oil Soon warning reset
Your new Ford may have this message: "5% Oil Life, Change Soon". I searched the internet and almost gave up until I found these instructions.
When you change the oil on new Ford Expeditions you have to reset the oil life sensor. You do this with the button above the steering wheel. Follow these steps:
- Press setup button until you see a message that says "press RESET at oil change."
- Press reset and it will reset the oil life to 100% —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.9.169.183 (talk • contribs)
- Thanks - but this should have been covered in great detail in your Owner's Manual, in the "Message Center" section, "Warning Messages" (or something to that effect). Check in the index. Most Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury vehicles have this feature, which helps protect the engine from neglect. The oil needs to be changed every 3000-5000 miles, or 120-180 days, depending on the model and driving habits. The "5% Oil Life" or "Change Oil Soon" message appears when you are within perhaps, for example, 150 miles of 3000 or 250 miles of 5000 miles since the last oil change and reset. If you pass the 3000 or 5000 mile limit, the message changes to "Oil Change Required". Normally the dealership would hit the "reset button" for you during regular maintenance servicing, but if you have the oil changed at, say, a JiffyLube or your home, then you have to reset the message yourself. --T-dot ( Talk/contribs ) 17:41, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
I studied the owners manual thoroughly and was unable to find a way to change that "5% Oil Life, Change Soon" message. It is good to have the information available for the next person who has the same problem. We got our oil changed on our 2007 4x4 Expedition at a GM dealership because we live about an hour from the Ford dealership. Also, they washed it for FREE! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 166.214.26.113 (talk • contribs)
- OK, well I checked the Master Document version of the 2007 Expedition Owner Guide (3rd Printing) and found the needed information in the Driver Controls section, page 136-137. It says:
- OIL CHANGE REQUIRED/CHANGE OIL SOON. Displayed when the engine oil life remaining is 5 percent or less. When oil life left is between 5% and 0%, the CHANGE OIL SOON message will be displayed. When oil life left reaches 0%, the OIL CHANGE REQUIRED message will be displayed.
- An oil change is required whenever indicated by the message center and according to the recommended maintenance schedule. USE ONLY RECOMMENDED ENGINE OILS.
- To reset the oil monitoring system to 100% after each oil change [approximately 5,000 miles (8,000 km) or 180 days] perform the following:
- Press and release the SETUP control to display “OIL LIFE = XXX% HOLD RESET = NEW”.
- Press and hold the RESET control for 2 seconds and release. Oil life is set to 100% and “OIL LIFE SET TO 100%” is displayed.
- I do deeply regret that you were unable to find this inportant information in your copy of the Owner Manual. I think I see why - in the Index (p. 372-373) under "Engine Oil" and then "change oil soon warning, message center" it indicates to look on page 334. Unfortunately that is the page for changing the oil, not for resetting the warning message, which is on page 137. I think this was a typo, which is regrettable. If you could, please confirm that the needed reset information is on page 137, and mark your index accordingly so you can find it in the future. I'm not sure we can do much about fixing the 2007 Owner Manuals, but we might be able to get it fixed for the 2008 and beyond Manuals. --T-dot ( Talk/contribs ) 12:26, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
