[edit] Summary
1880 photo of the original production of Robert Reece and Meyer Lutz's The Forty Thieves. This production was staged at the Gaiety Theatre, London as the Christmas show in 1880. It was described as a 'burlesque in three acts' rather than a pantomime. Dancer and burlesque star Kate Vaughan, pictured here with her co-star E. W. Royce, was one of the main attractions of the piece. Mr Royce played Hassarac, the Captain of the Thieves, and Kate Vaughan played Morgiana, the servant of the merchant Ali Baba.
