Football in Hungary

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Few associations can match the football pedigree of the Hungarian Football Federation, which was founded in 1901. A successful team from the outset, Hungary were regular features at major tournaments, such as the first Olympic Football Tournament (Stockholm 1912) and the first FIFA World Cup (Uruguay 1930). Hungary were a true force to be reckoned with and were unbeaten for nearly a decade, a period that included a stunning 6-3 victory against England on the hallowed Wembley turf. The 1954 FIFA World Cup final in Berne against West Germany will also live long in the memory, as Hungary lost and the defeat signalled the start of a return to normality.
