Folk enemy
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In popular culture, a folk enemy is a character or entity that is often used to represent a distaste for what the character represents.
A folk enemy is frequently portrayed in effigy, or in exaggerated style.
In some cultures the distaste can extend to open hatred, the figure depicted being involved in ethnic or political tensions.
However in Western and European societies[citation needed] the use and portrayal of 'folk enemies' is these days largely symbolic and frequently satirical.
