Foday Kallay is a former Sierra Leone Army corporal who was among a group who mutinied and went into the jungles in the late 1990s. He eventually became the leader of the West Side Boys gang which was involved in the Sierra Leone civil war and gained worldwide notoriety for the capture of a UK patrol and their local liaison officer on August 25, 2000. His gang was destroyed by a combined SAS/SBS/Parachute Regiment assault after negotiations broke down. He is currently serving a 50-year prison sentence in Sierra Leone after he surrendered during the assault (Operation Barras).
