"Flying Easy" is a song from Donny Hathaway's 1973 album, Extension of a Man.
Hathaway originally recorded the song as an instrumental with the Woody Herman band on a chess release from 1969 titled 'Heavy Exposure', but that rendition is a clunky, kitschy embarrassment that was actually done in hopes that United Airlines might use is for a national advertising campaign. Donny redeemed the Herman take with a smooth and easy version that used the brass sparingly and added the mellowing presence of strings. Combined with the lyrics of Walter Lowe and Franklin Moss, Jr., it became a serene soundtrack of many dreams to come.
