should its potent greenhouse gas properties and key role in Kyoto-organized Clean Development Mechanism be mentioned? see http://www.worldwatch.org/node/4634 148.85.196.144 01:07, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

NY Times, Dec 21, 2006 issue has this: The secretariat of the Clean Development Mechanism estimates that a ton of HFC-23 in the atmosphere has the same effect as 11,700 tons of carbon dioxide.

So I'm thinking HFC-23's potent greenhouse gas properties - "carbon dioxide equivalence" would be good to include on the page, but I'm not really qualified to give an accurate estimate.

Isn't this stuff highly reactive? That is, when released into the environment is does not last long enough to cause much greenhouse effect?

The atmospheric lifetime is 260 years, the ODP is 0.0 and the GWP is 12000. ("Refrigerant Data Summary" Engineered Systems, 18(11):74-88, November 2001) [USER: I] 19:40, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
