Florø is the most western town in Norway. It has only about 11.000 citisens and was founded in 1860 in order to serve the rich herring - fisheries on this part of the coast. Today, fishins industry is still important businesses along with shipbuilding and supply base activities for the offshore oil production in the North Sea. Tourism is increasingly important. It is easy to get to Florø from Bergen or Oslo by several dayly flights, fast ferry service or the Coastal express (Hurtigruta) from Bergen, og by car.
