Fitzgerald High School is the local high school in Fitzgerald, Georgia and is the home of the Purple Hurricanes. They educated students in grades 9-12. It is located on 509 West Palm Street in Fitzgerald, GA. The superintendent is Doctor John Key and the Principal is Doctor Morris Leis.

Fitzgerald High School is the oldest high school in the state. It is celebrating its 100th year anniversery.

Fitzgerald High School has an outstanding athletics program which includes:

Guys sports - football, cross-country, water polo, field hockey, basketball, wrestling, tennis, baseball, track, soccer and golf

Girls sports - softball, cheerleading, volleyball, cross-country, basketball, track, tennis, soccer, and golf

In 2008, The lady Canes soccer team Won region. This was the first time they have ever won a Region Title.

Other activities include: Band, Show Choir, Chorus, Anchor Club, Debate Team, Archery, Angel Flight, FCCLA, FBLA, Skills USA, Drama Team, One-Act, and Mascot Acrobatics, amongst many others.

[edit] Past accomplishments

FHS has currently won 3 straight state championship weightlifting titles under the direction of coach Mike Booth.

Under the coaching of Angela Davis, The FHS cheerleaders have won Region titles for five years straight and a cheerleading state championship in 2005.

The football team is under the supervision of Robby Pruitt. Coach Pruitt is a Florida High School Athletic Association Hall of Famer and a former National Coach of the Year.
