Ice fishing is the sport of catching fish with lines and hooks or spears through an opening in the ice on a frozen body of water. Fisherman may sit on the stool on the open expanse of a frozen lake or sit in a heated cabin on the ice, some with bunks and amenities.
Ice fishing has long been considered a "quasi-sport", in that some people claim that very little skill is really involved and that success is dependent upon just good fortune. This has led many other sportspersons to consider ice fishing to be merely a pastime for people who have few constructive or edifying activities in their lives. However, research by the AIFA (American Ice Fishing Association) has shown that ice fishing can have very calming and relaxing effects for the fishermen/fisherwomen. The AIFA also concluded that icefishing not only helps manage the fish species population, but also contributes to both community economic growth and to the emotional well-being of the participants.
Spearfishing is a form of fishing that has been popular throughout the world for centuries. Early civilizations are familiar with the custom of spearing fish out of rivers and streams using sharpened sticks as a means of catching food.
Spearfishing today employs more modern and effective elastic- or pneumatic-powered spearguns and slings to strike the hunted fish.

Blast fishing or dynamite fishing describes the practice of using dynamite, homemade bombs or other explosives to stun or kill schools of fish for easy collection. This practice can be extremely destructive to the surrounding ecosystem, as the shockwaves often destroy the underlying habitat (such as coral reefs close to a coastline) that supports the fish. The frequently improvised nature of the explosives used also means danger for the fishermen as well, with accidents and injuries.
Blast fishing is a dangerous (and generally illegal) form of fishing. Home-made explosives made from artificial fertilizers mixed with kerosene is often employed. These devices explode without warning, and have been known to injure or kill the person using them, or innocent bystanders. M-80 fireworks are sometimes used as well.
Blast Fishing is sometimes called "Redneck Fishing" as a joke.

Fish soup (Russian: уха, Hungarian: halászlé; Bulgarian: рибена чорба, ribena chorba; Bosnian, Serbian and Croatian: riblja čorba, riblji paprikaš; Macedonian: рибина чорба, ribina čorba; Greek: ψαρόσουπα, psarosoupa) is hot soup prepared with mixed river fish, characteristic for cuisines of the Pannonian plain and the Balkans, especially the wider region around the river Danube. The meal originates from Slavic cuisine.
Traditionally, fish soup is prepared in small kettles on open fire by fishermen themselves.
