Why is this article here? How is this inaugural address especially noteworthy? JasonCNJ (talk) 01:01, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
- Reagan introduced what he planned to accomplish during his administration in this speech. And, like his Berlin Wall speech, the Inaugural address of John F. Kennedy, and all of FDR's inaugural addresses, they are renowned in American history (and with the Berlin wall one, world renowned). Happyme22 (talk) 01:04, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
- I disagree that Reagan's first inaugural address is "renowned in American history." Certainly, it is not close to the other speeches mentioned, or frankly to a number of other more famous Reagan addresses. These articles which are basically the full text of a speech (including the JFK entry) should be moved to wikisource. JCO312 (talk) 15:09, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
- Happyme22, I'm eager to hear your thoughts on this so I can get try to get a consensus before taking any action. Would you oppose moving this article to wikisource? JasonCNJ (talk) 23:59, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
- No I'm not opposed and now feel that it is the best thing to do, however I would only move the text of the speech itself and keep this page which I am now going to expand so it includes notable excerpts, history of it, etc. If you are willing to move it, please be my guest. - I agree with Happyme22, the text of the speech should be at wikisource but this speech is historically significant. Some people forget the monumental felling of change that Mr. Reagan brought when he was elected in 1980. This was before Iran-Contra or other problems that would later beset Mr. Reagan's presidency. The mood of the nation was grim in 1980 and his election was, too many, an invigorating spirit. This address (like that of JFK in 1960) was very inspiring to those who heard it then and to many who read it now. --Ian Struan (talk) 04:02, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
