[edit] Some thoughts

I think it would be interesting to have some pictures of what the centres will look like, if you can pester DCLG into putting some into the public domain. Having failed miserably to pester the Met Police into releasing photos of even the insides of a Metcall centre I realise this is easier said than done - however Darlington & Durham FRA have released [some drawings of their centre] and might be persuaded. (I have to say that the drawings don't bear any great resemblance to any genuine control room I ever saw.) I'd be interested in how the new system will differ from the old, as well, and in how the software will work; I've heard rumours (nothing more than that) that if the Met ever manage to get CHS working the Home Office is considering a single emergency-service contact-handling & despatch system (which would end the current ridiculous situation where ambulance control rooms have to dial 999 if they need the fire brigade). Since as far as I can tell noone in the Met has anything nice to say about CHS, and the sign-off date for it has (allegedly) been put back to 2012 I wouldn't expect it any time soon.
