[edit] History

The Game Fingers was officially created in Yarmouth, Maine on January 24, 2001 as an alternative to traditional drinking games. It requires no props, and is therefore playable with any amount of liquid in any container.

[edit] Rules

The game is played as follows[1]: (A cup may be a beer, bottle of wine, shot, any amount of liquid in any container, although typically 1/2 beer is used.

1)Each player puts their index finger on a cup.

2)In turn, starting with the eldest person, each player says a number. This number can be anywhere from zero up to the total number fingers on the cup. So if there is 5 people play, the options are 0-5.

3)As this person says the number, everyone decides to pull their finger off of the cup or to leave it on.

4)If the person guesses correct, they have won and are out. There is now four people left.

5)The object of the game is not to be the last person left on the cup. The last person drinks whatever is in the cup.

Other rules:

1)If you say an impossible rule, as in there are 5 fingers, and you say 5 and pull your finger, the game is over and you lose.

2)If you say a number out of turn, you lose.

3)If you do not pull at the exact moment the number is called, but then pull shortly after to make the person calling incorrect, then that person is out, and the game continues.

4)You may not grab people to keep them on the cup or force them off.

[edit] Controversy

There has been some dispute over calling numbers quickly after the person before you to catch every one off guard. This is allowed by the official rules made by the games original creators. This was discussed in depth in Branden Neal's discourse, The Perfect Game.
