[edit] Does Filippo Reef actually exist?
Does Filippo Reef actually exist? Is there any reported sighting of it other than the original 1886 report? Could the original report have been mistaken? Is the reef visible in satellite photography? Does satellite bathymetry show a seamount at the indicated location? 67.168.86.129 (talk) 05:43, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
All I have found is that during the expeditions from Rarotonga to Hawaii, the sailing canoes reconstructed to study the ancient routes of the polynesians took a route at the east of its supposed position. Maybe it is still on some marine charts ? No mount big enough can be seen in this area in Google Earth and I have studied the satellite pictures and seen nothing.... look at that picture taken the 13 sept 2007 ! : http://archive.digitalglobe.com/archive/showBrowse.php?catID=10100100072A7701 do you see something ? obviously, they were looking for it ! stephane.jourdan gmail —Preceding unsigned comment added by 118.93.75.55 (talk) 08:33, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
