Filipino hardcore started in the early 80s when foreigners brought the punk culture to Manila. Filipinos welcomed the music with much intense. It's one culture they can relate to and as the scene grew some started to create hardcore punk music of their own. Some of the early punk bands include G.I. and the Idiots, Dead Ends, I.O.V., Urban Bandits and Betrayed. Through the years, underground gigs have been organized and the music spread throughout the country. A lot of bands were influenced by the punk phenomenon and embraced its ideologies more importantly the D.I.Y. ethic. As of today, the underground punk hardcore scene in the Philippines is very much alive.
