Filibeli Hafız Ahmed Pasha

Müezzinzade Filibeli Hafız Ahmed Pasha (born 1564 in Filibe in Ottoman Empire, today Plovdiv in Bulgaria; died 1632 in Istanbul) was an Ottoman Grand Vizier. Born as son of a Pomak Muezzin, he went to Istanbul in the age of 15 and was an employee in the Sultan's palace for many years. From 1609 on he became Governor of Damascus (Syria), Van, Erzurum, Baghdad (Iraq) and other Anatolian vilayets.

Twice he was Grand Vizier:

  • 1. rule: 28th of January 1625 - 1st of December 1626
  • 2. rule: 25th of October 1631 - 10th of February 1632

Filibeli died during a revolt, when the Janissaries attempted to overthrow Sultan Murat IV.
