Why are some films in categories with just the last name of the director, and others in categories with the full name? john k 03:36, 27 Jun 2005 (UTC)

  • Per CFD discussion the preferred format for subcategories is Films directed by director's name which I would extend to say that the full name be used, in line with general WP avoidance of potentially ambiguous titles.-choster 05:23, 14 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Categorization suggestion

I would suggest adding the article about each director into their "Films by director" Category. Thus, Richard Lester would be in Category:Films directed by Richard Lester. When adding these articles, they should be put on top of the article list by sorting on a space. In this example: [[Category:Films directed by Richard Lester| ]] would be added to the Richard Lester article. This would do two needed things. It would created a link to the director's article from the category, and a link to the category from the directors article. There is nothing wrong with doing this. The articles about the directors all discuss the films of the director, thus they belong in the categories. -- Samuel Wantman 09:04, 1 March 2006 (UTC)
