Golbez is the mysterious sorcerer who replaces Cecil as the captain of the Red Wings. Skilled in black magic and summon magic, the sorcerer is a powerful opponent who serves as the main antagonist for the majority of the game. Somehow affiliated with King Baron, Golbez is assisted by Kain in his evil deeds.

Template:Spoiler It is later revealed that Golbez is actually controlling Kain with his mind, and that Golbez is being controlled by the true villain of the game: Zemus.
