VReel is a website currently under construction in an effort to replace the now defunct Stage6 with a viable alternative. Using a similar style to the defunct site, VReel has recieved a licence from DivX, Inc. to use their codec, and has recently signed an agreement with Limelight Networks, Inc. to host the website globally.
[edit] Early Development
VReel began under the title DivXIt.net. Drawing attention from the internet community by means of social bookmarking websites such as Digg, DivXIt.net's inbound traffic gained the attention of DivX, Inc., who immediatly issued a cease and desist order against the website for copyright infringment[1]. Following this, DivXIt staff responded to the order offering to sign the domain name over to DivX, Inc. in return for a free licence for the website[2]. This arrangement was met, however the domain DivXIt has yet to transfer to DivX,Inc., and is still pointing to the VReel servers.
[edit] Recent Development
Having moved to a new domain (VReel.net), the site continued its steady growth. A short time after interacting with DivX, VReel was contacted by Limelight Networks, and was offered a hosting plan on their network.[3] As of the 18th of May VReel has just entered the beta testing phase.[4]
