This is a great-looking photo but I have doubts about the description of it being filled with commuters. The crowds are ignoring the men/women segregation signs and appear to be well-dressed and most significantly are all standing facing toward the camera,, which implies that it was a special occasion. --JBellis 20:05, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

I am relying on this statement from The US government National Archives and Records Administration:
- The vast majority of the digital images in the Archival Research Catalog (ARC) are in the public domain. Therefore, no written permission is required to use them. We would appreciate your crediting the National Archives and Records Administration as the original source. For the few images that remain copyrighted, please read the instructions noted in the "Access Restrictions" field of each ARC record.
There are no "access restrictions" attached: the picture would therefore be in the public domain and the {{PD-USGov}} seems valid, according to my reading. There may, of course, be another interpretation. --Old Moonraker 15:00, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

- The NARA reference number is 306-FS-135-23. This is searchable: it gives the link [1] and the comment: "in the holdings of the National Archives and Records Administration". --Old Moonraker 15:21, 2 November 2007 (UTC)
- That's not an ARC Identifier. Try searching at http://www.archives.gov/research/arc/index.html. It's in the holdings of NARA, but is not part of the ARC as far as I can tell. Pagrashtak 15:26, 2 November 2007 (UTC)
- Now we are getting somewhere. Followed your suggestion and found the correct ARC reference. (Isn't the Archival Reseach Catalog just the catalogue of the NARA collection?).
